The Byron shire is rich in history. The Arakwal people have lived on this land for 22,000 years and has been a meeting place for tribes within the Bundjalung Nation, Byron is a place for healing, meeting and growing.

Settlers and European colonisers moved in around 1830, loggers and farmers changed the landscape dramatically removing the Big Scrub Rainforest and leaving only 1% of which remains today.

Suffolk park has great ties to indigenous heritage, it is the home of many now and continues to support a growing community.
